It was clear that this was a transition time for the band and they were going into new directions of exploring jazz inspired songs and jams less then 6 months into the future.The thing about the band is they never forget their roots and this second set clearly demonstrates that.This set sounds and feels like 1970 or spring of 1971. 9/26/91  is another wondeful example of this. The set starts off with a rousing versions of Bertha> GSET with Jerry  doing the St. Stephen tease that was common during this period.Then a sweet Brokedown sets the tone for the rest of the set.Then we  get a wonderful tid bit of Teddy Bear picnic with Phil and Jerry  practically get the whole band to play it.Me & My Uncle is staight head and rocking. Ramble on Rose  has  fully developed and must have had everyone singing along.El Paso has Phil being the star.He's Gone is really amazing and that is the catslyst for the rest of the show, they play it out and it is clear they will  use it as a transition but first we get a 2 minute bass solo from Phil that is very good and then he  goes directly into the Other One. The  band develops the energy and tension and weaves and bobbles the theme for a long time even before  Bobby sings the first verse.It  almost sounds like they  might drop into Comes a Time but they venture back into a spacey Other One theme with Keith playing some cool sythn sounds which is low in the mix but very appropiate. After the first verse they again go off and end up  arriving at a point that has Jerry playing ferociuosly with screaming whinning leads, is it 1969? Maybe and then magic Me & Booby McGee. Which is a song that epitomizes the counter culture movement, maybe this was their sweet good bye to it? Then right back into the second verse of the Other One, not yet guys, which is awesome you can hear the crowd roar! The ending has Jerry and the band teasing Cryptical Envelopment, which  they played for the last time only 5 nights earlier and then into a amazing reading of Wharf Rat which has heart felt vocals and a long solo after the final verse and a sweet soft ending that stops completly. You get the classic ending with Sugar Mag, an amazing SSDD, and then the 123 punch of NFA>GTRFB>NFA. No encore just like the old days.

A "MUST HAVE" for fans of 1972 GRATEFUL DEAD.

Jerry, Bobby, Billy, Phil and Keith put on a top of the line performance not to be missed. 

An amazing performance of THE OTHER ONE, with a special treat...phil's bass solo at the begining of the song....FUNKY DRUMS & BASS solo. When Phil strummed chords dust clouds would rise on Jupiter, Saturn and Mars...

The GRATEFUL DEAD 1972 Stanley Theatre September 28, 1972.

This show has one of the very best He's Gone's ever.  I only prefer 5/3 more. The Other One is way up there and the ensuing space is really cool. Greatest is very fine. 
I always liked this show and considering 9/27 is one of the best shows ever IMO, it is certainly a credible effort.
